Hi all,

on 13/12/1941 Carlo del Greco ship was torpedoed between Naples and Taranto by sm Upright.
Which was ship's load like equipments and soldiers? How many were military losses?

Thanks in advance for any help.

She carried a company of German tanks, and probably half a battalion of Italian tanks (I will check). There was not a lot of personnel on board, and I believe most were rescued by the escorts. She was sunk together with Fabio Filzi. A single spread of four torpedoes, two each hitting the ships. This happened just outside Taranto, a short distance from the safe approach zone, I believe.

I found a German record that states Carlo del Greco and Fabio Filzi each had two companies of Italian tanks on board, which makes little sense to me. Does anyone know for sure?

According to a "Storia Militare" article on the "Littorio" Armoured Division, Filzi and Del Greco were carrying all the vehicles and equipment of the 12th Tank Battalion, including 52 M13/40 tanks.

Thanks, and that's what I thought. So that would be three companies and the staff section.
