How many 7.62 cm PaK 36 were sent to North Africa?
Re: How many 7.62 cm PaK 36 were sent to North Africa?
Fascinating stuff!
So both the 15th and 21st had 24 x 75mm/76mm guns each.
So in the case of the 15th panzer, would these twenty four field pieces be distributed between the battalions in the 115th Panzergrenadier Regiment?
I would really like to see how they were distributed, maybe each battalion had a twelve guns in a single gun company or how someone suggested earlier, a couple of guns to each infantry company.
Yan.

You can have a look here:

Please note that the September document was a plan. It doesn't mean the 15. or 21. PD ever 'had' the guns.

The enemy had superiority in numbers, his tanks were more heavily armoured, they had larger calibre guns with nearly twice the effective range of ours, and their telescopes were superior. 5 RTR 19/11/41

I have checked the Nafziger books and it says that on September 1942, the Pz AOK Ia Nr 2092, issued that Panzerjager battalions should hand over their 50mm PaK 38s to the Infantry and Pioneer companies and these should be replaced with 76.2mm guns.
If 75mm and 76.2mm guns were issued to the Infantry companies, then I wonder what towed them.

Re: How many 7.62 cm PaK 36 were sent to North Africa?
I have heard that the PaK 97/38 saw service in North Africa, but I have no solid evidence to back this up.
What made me think that the French 75s were captured field pieces taken from French colonies in the area.
But it does make sense that the PaK 97/38 made it to this theatre and these look a lot more manageable as a company AT asset, then the French 75mm.
Has anyone got any photographic evidence on the PaK 97/38 being used by the Africa Korps?
I have seen some photos of them being carried on the back of half-tracks [Maultier I think], but this was in Russian.
