Feldpost 24025
Feldpost 24025
My great uncle trained at Landau as a mechanic and was then assigned to the Afrika Korps. During his journey there, he was for 3 weeks at Feldpost 24025, and the timeframe was August and September of 1942. The feldpost description is listed as "Stab Feldersatz-Bataillon Afrika." I believe the location to be either in Greece or Crete, but I am unable to identify any bases in these areas, and no physical location for feldpost 24025. Does anyone know where this might be?
Re: Feldpost 24025
It's not clear to me why FEB Afrika should be in Greece or Crete? I would expect it to be in Africa. It could be with 90. leichte. What is possible is that he was assigned to the unit, but held in transit in Crete (most likely at that time), e.g. waiting for space on a plane.
The enemy had superiority in numbers, his tanks were more heavily armoured, they had larger calibre guns with nearly twice the effective range of ours, and their telescopes were superior. 5 RTR 19/11/41

Re: Feldpost 24025
We were able to finally read a word from the letter (it is written in old German), and he lists the location he wrote the letter as "Athens". Was 24025 a holding unit in Athens?
What was the purpose of a Stab Feldersatz-Bataillon?

Re: Feldpost 24025
Stab is German for Command Staff. So battalion command.

Re: Feldpost 24025
Feldersatzbataillon DAK was in Tripoli not Athens.
Suggest spending some effort following through on Bataillonsstab zbV 220 and Feldersatzbataillon 220.
