I have always wondered why with spotter aircraft aloft, the Malaya and/or Renown didn't specifically target the Caio Duilio once her presence was established. I read the some Malaya shells landed close, but was this more a random result? The attack was as much a show of force as anything, and it seems strange to me this opportunity wasn't exploited.
Also, it is my understanding that the Malaya targeted the docks more, and the Renown the industrial areas. Is this accurate? Is it the Malaya that is more or less credited with sinking the merchant ships lost?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
