British Unit Location - Italy 1944

Post by Volyn » 28 Aug 2020 21:13

I am trying to determine the location for the 3rd Battalion of the Coldstream Guards on or around the date of 23 JUL 1944, I believe they were fighting near Florence at the time?

Are there any maps or other details about this engagement?

The battalion war diary records over the 24hrs period of the engagement, 2 officers killed, 1 wounded, 14 OR's killed, 25 wounded and 1 OR missing.

Anything else related to this battalion during its time in Italy would also be appreciated.

Assigned to the 24th Guards Brigade, itself part of the 6th South African Armored division during the battle for Florence.

My old and battered copy of 'After the battle' Magazine, Issue 129 has the 3rd CSG fighting for Monte Domini on 07/23/44. This is SE from the town of Greve-in-Chianti on route 222.
