Does anybody know how many gebirgsjägers were killed during the invasion of Crete?

Greetings

I'll think that 5th Gebirgsjäger Division was the only Gebirgsjäger unit involved to Crete operation.

According to Lucas-Hitler's Mountain Troops 5th lost during Crete campaign:

20 officers and 305 other ranks KIA
13 officers and 274 other ranks WIA
18 officers and 488 other ranks MIA

Most of MIA were drowned when teir caique convoy was attacked.

Here are the primary German mountain units that took part in the invasion of Crete, the 5. Gebirgs-Division plus an attached regiment from the 6. Gebirgs-Division:

5. Gebirgs-Division – Generalmajor Julius Ringel (awarded Knight's Cross)
• Gebirgsjäger-Regiment 100 – Oberst Willibald Utz (awarded Knight's Cross)
• Gebirgsjäger-Regiment 85 – Oberst August Krakau (awarded Knight's Cross)
• Gerbirgs-Artillerie-Regiment 95 – Oberstleutnant August Wittmann (awarded Knight's Cross)
• Gebirgs-Pionier-Batallion 95 – Major Schaette

6. Gebirgs-Division
• Gebirgsjäger-Regiment 141 – Oberst Maximilian Jais (awarded Knight's Cross)

Best regards,
Shawn
