Italian Blackshirts...

I know almost nothing about the "blackshirts" I know they were the most loyal of Mussolini's troops. they formed a few "blackshirt divisions" most of which were destoryed in African theater. Does any one have have any info on the blackshirts?

Were they a elite Italian unit? Or were they one of those serect police forces like the NKVD who brought terror and death to all countries they came into? What is the history of the Italian Blackshirts?
