I have read in a book that before the Battle of El Amalmein Mussolini order that a "noble stead" be propared for him so he could ride behind the Afrika Korps Panzers after their "victory".

Is this true if so can anyone tell about the other stupid stunts Mussolini said and did threw out the war?

it's true that in summer 1942 Mussolini spent some time in north africa waiting to partecipate to parade in occupied alexandria. When was evident that Rommel had never passed over Alamein he turned back to Italy.
There's a legend about a white horse that was sent in NA for this role. I don't know how much it's true but has an important role in the recent movie "El Alamein - La linea del fuoco"...
