Very interesting, I am a Bosnian-German and have family who have served in WWII, On the Jugoslavian partisans side, and the Waffen SS/Wehrmacht. Here are some photos i have scanned on the computer using Gyazo.

My Grandfather's Brother is on the far right, In Berlin near the Reichstag , April 24th 1945. Not sure what was happening.

Found this at home - my grandfather with the partisans. Picture taken August 17th 1942 in village Dobro near Livno, Hercegovina. 3rd company, 3rd (Kragujevac) battalion, 1st proleterian brigade. My granpa is the guy in the middle, looking to the right.

The guys went through some serious troubles in the eight months prior to the day when this photo was taken in the hot Hercegovina sun.

And because he was a good soldier, good comunist and generally a capable guy, five years after the photo above was taken, after Neretva, Sutjeska, a wounding and all the rest - he was a proud bearer of a Yugoslav diplomatic passport on his way to Soviet Union. Such were the times back then...

My in-laws lived around that region, Gottschee, during that time. Unfortunately my father in law passed away too soon, as he had some great, and often horrific, stories as to how they were treated, and what they did to survive at the hands of the 3rd Reich, and worse, Tito's minions. They seemed to get the worst of both worlds being German speaking Slavs.

There is a book called "The Forgotten 500", which discusses the Yugoslav side of things, and the assistance they provided to downed Allied Pilots.

My father served with the British mission to Yugoslavia led by Maclean. He was badly wounded in Petrovac in 1944 and was treated by partisans until they could get him to Italy.
