[quote="Arto O"]Hi,
The golden age of modern mercenaries was in 1960s and 1970s, especially in Africa: Kongo, Nigeria, Angola etc. If you have any photos or links, I would appreciate it a lot, especially from Nigeria.
The guy, who scan for me in the internet place didnt made his best work today, so sorry about the bad quality of the photos.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers
Arto
From: Los mercenarios, Jacques Lantie: A french para, I suppose from Congo:
The first pictures from page 1 is not a French para this Belgian mercenary Guy jacquemin

Hi Blueknights,
"Golden Age"? Let's not over romanticize these guys, who included a good number of homicidal maniacs, of whom Callan was only the most notorious, and other's who the Rhodesians would have classified as "a waste of white skin".
The more worthwhile soldiers amongst the mercenaries in Africa mostly joined the Rhodesian Security Forces during those years. Even the Rhodies made mistakes in recruitment - i.e. the French indep. company of RLI.
Sid.

Thanks Blueknights for your info. Sid Guttridge, I used the word "Golden ages" not Blueknights. But I agree with your opinion.

The information regarding Danny Roxo is incorrect. Danny moved to South Africa in 1975 and joined the South African Defence Force. During Operation Savannah in Angola (Which I myself took part in as a member of the SADF) Danny Roxo was part of Bravo Group (Which later became 32 Battalion)
Danny was awarded the Honoris Crux for bravery during the battle of Bridge 14.
On the 23rd August 1976 whilst on a rescue mission the vehicle in which he was travelling triggered an anti-tank mine which flipped it over crushing Danny beneath it, as the story goes "He lit up a cigarette and calmly smoked it until it was finished, and the he died"
