Hi,
Can anybody point me to some sources where I can research an officer of the Austrian Bundesheer? Helmut Demel (1919-1979) entered the Bundesheer soon after its formation, was a Hauptmann in 1956 and eventually rose to the rank of Oberst. He died in 1979. Surely there should be some info available on a high-ranking officer like this.
Thanks for any advice.
Jason

Hello Jason,
I hope you get this message in good health.
You will probably be surprised to get an answer after 8 years!
I know Helmut's family very well. What do you want to know or how can I help you?
Many greetings from Austria!
Claus

Hi Claus,
thanks for your reply. I was seeking info about Helmut Demel for use in a book I was writing. I completed the book several years ago and published it:

I acquired a copy of his Personalakte and included a lengthy bio about him in the "Panzer-Abteilung 103" chapter. Quite remarkable that an officer who lost an arm then volunteered so quickly for more front-line duty. And he survived the Stalingrad pocket, too. I was hoping he recorded his experiences at some point after the war.
Regardless, I am still interested in Herr Demel, even if purely for my own edification. If you don't wish to discuss anything publicly, please contact me at [email protected]
Thanks again
