Between 200,000 and 300,000. have inoculated in Sydney.
All the vaccines deployed against the Spanish flu were totally ineffective.

Hi WM - yes and no. The fact that a virus was responsible was unknown so there were no vaccines against it. Because many if not most individuals stricken with flus developed secondary bacterial infections - these were, since the 1890s, believed by many doctors (although this view was being increasingly challenged from the 1910's) to be the causative agents and such vaccines as were developed were designed to act against them rather than the virus that caused the flu. Since many patients who survived the Spanish flu, due to their weakened state, succumbed to these secondary infections, it is reasonable to assume that effective vaccines against secondary bacterial infections could have reduced the death toll. Unfortunately only some of them were likely to be effective (because of poor understanding of the variability of the relevant bacteria) and those that were, were not applied in numbers large enough to make a visible difference.

It was "against the Spanish flu," although it's true there were some speculations that the vaccines (directed at bacterial infections, that based on some old theory that the flu was caused by bacteria) were someone helpful.

So their understanding of interactions between germs and masks was as good as ours.
But the more impressive thing is the clarity of writing. Today even the most mainstream media including the NYT or WAPO are incapable of that.
