In the quiz thread I saw the excellent photos showing the East German M54 helmet. Pictures and information on this helmet are rare. Does anyone know how many were manufactured? What units used them? Years of service? Any further information or photos would be appreciated.
I find them interesting as they resemble something between the Whermacht M42 and paratrooper helmets. They bore a greater resemblence to more "traditional" German helmets than the DDR M56 model, which almost looks "Russian". Yes, I do know it was originally a rejected Whermacht prototype.
