Re: Photos of mercenaries in 1960s and 70s
Hi Guys,
Before getting too carried away, it is worth mentioning that the mercenaries were not necessarily effective.
There is a very good article on the French independent company raised by the Rhodesian Army in 1977-78 at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/7_Independ ... hodesia%29
This article is damning enough, but omits the activities of some of its members after the unit was disbanded in disgrace. These included murder.
Cheers,
Sid.
P.S. Then there was the debacle of the "Ancient Order of Froth Blowers" in the Seychelles in 1981.

Here "Black Jack" Schramme during the Simba uprising. Note the leopard patch of his commando. The man behind the Browning1919 machine gun seems to be the same than in the famous photo. Another MG should be the Browing M2. Note the Bukavu text at right up corner. A road sign? Source: network54.com

The golden age of modern mercenaries was in 1960s and 1970s, especially in Africa: Kongo, Nigeria, Angola etc. If you have any photos or links, I would appreciate it a lot, especially from Nigeria.
The guy, who scan for me in the internet place didnt made his best work today, so sorry about the bad quality of the photos.
