tigar even thought that many albanians left albania during WW2 and some after WW2 even thought it was a very small number noone really went in serbia couse serbia didnt offer anything intresting for albanians. So not much "refugies" from albania in serbia.

p.s. during the 70' albania was such a place that in some cases the pearents were denounced from their children for imperialistic thoughts.

Hi White Trader

Actually many Albanians came to live in Yugoslavia after WW2 at the time the standard of under Titos'Yugoslavia was much higher comparably to some poorer Western Countries.

The standards might have been higher, but it was the opposite, Albanians were actually being expelled from Kosova after WWII.

How do you explain the fact that the Albanian population in Kosovo was increasing at an extremly high rate after WW2 ?
Was it just very high birth rates?
Or was it immigration?

It wasn't only the Albanian population in Kosova that grew after WWII, all the other ex yugo republics had an increase in population.

tigar you can go and wach the life in albanian viliages and you will see how did we grew. The standard got better, the infant death rate smaller and no more wars to kill all the sons so we had an over production.. it is normal in some parts of kosova or maby metter to say it is normali in the most viliages to have 10 children. Anyway even thought i live in kosova since my birth i dont even know one albanian that came after the WW2 or any ancestor of those suposed immigrants. the only imigration that happend was the imigration betwen albanians of yugoslavia where many came to study in kosova and stay'd here.

u can come and make ur'self an report and see that what have u been learnd in school and pivarnicas are myths.

Yes, after every war there is a trend in the increase in population (and ww2 is no exception).

white trader has a point, usually rural and poorer areas have a higher birth rate, whilst a lower birth rate is noticable in urban areas. Also, if the mortality rate betters, than shortly there is a high increase in the population. Same could be seen in Africa, if their mortality rates could be fixed (its 5 or 6 times higher than in Europe) than their birth rate (its 3 times that of Europe) would mean a large increase in population - as Kosovo saw.

Increase in population Yugoslavia

#24

Post by alsaco » 14 Apr 2003, 22:11

In Kosovo the fluctuation of population was partially the result of Tito's politics, who did have a tendancy to increase the part of albanian, and limit the number of serbs and macedonian.

A serious study of this would probably help.

But the main factor of increase was the fact that three factors concurred.
Albanians had a hight birth rate, as all developing populations, and no birth control. Tito regime did bring modern care in maternity and hospitals, which reduced very much the number of death of newly born and childrens. The fact that numerous men did go to work in Germany, before returning home did give to families the financial possibility to engage in modernisation of houses and activities, which in turn permitted better life, and new progress in population.

We will probably in the near future see the birth rate be reducing, and it seems that albanians from Kossovo going abroad have now a tendancy to settle abroad, to cut links with the family, and send less money home, which shall result in less young couples, and less childrens

But this will not immediately bring effects, and for fifty years at least the problems resulting from relative overpopulation will complicate the evolutions in this part of Europe.

You're right alsaco on most of the points, but however the albanian family nucleus is very closely related and Kosovar Albanians who always went outside the country have in the vast majority of the cases sent money home as always and that's why the standards of living have been better, therefore cutting links of a family is very rare and I've never heard of such a case.

It is clear that Albanian natality is much higher and used to be in the past much higher when compared to other members of the Yugoslavian federation. Therefore the demographic map was changed in Kosovo and neighboring republics of Yugoslavia (former). But the question is why is this important? Why is it bad? Unlike the rest of Europe including eastern Europe and former Yugoslavia the reproduction rate is lower than the one required to sustain itself without future economical problems. Albanians are exception, and if used judiciously that may be the only area in Europe in the future that will not be in problems. It may turn out to be a good things for the Serbs or Macedonians as long as each party respects each other and forget this stupid non sense of fighting each other over nothing.
