Maybe you could start with what financial and material means the British Empire needed to sustain herself. Few realize fully how much the "manpower" required at all levels was a real feat for the age ending at the turn of the 19th cent. The far flung bastions of trade and business representatives of Her/His Majesty were essential to both represent and supply the heart that was England. And then Etc, etc, etc.
Or start with a rude joke!

What do you think my main points should be? What material did they import from other colonies that were essential for Britain? Also one more question: where did the brits get the coal from until they switched to using oil in early 20th century which brought the focus on the Middle East? Thanks a lot again Aufklarung.

Sorry chum, busy here. I am prepared to help you but need some info first. What are the details of this research? To whom do you need to present it to and for what reason?
For now their coal was for the most part their own. A quick search for UK Coal should yield info for a basis. The Commonwealth nations did send alot of material and goods to Mother England also. I was thinking along the lines of the great Empire GB sustained was diminished as her colonies were lost and trade declined and power and influence wained and etc. If you are going to talk as you said about her intrests during "19-20th Century" you must start with the British peak early in Queen Victorias reign and follow the decline to the end of WW2.
I'll try and work a quick outline for you but you need to get a bit of basic research done too.
What is your timeline here?

Hi Aufklarung, this project is a 10 minute speech info background on the economic interests of GB that it had with its colonies and the imports. I was just wondering the main imports the the Brits took from their colonies such as for example from the Americas they took tobacco, cotton while in India and SE Asia they took spices. I couldn't find though where they imported coal from. Thanks a lot again for your help.

You could mention that rent on land in India and export/import duties contributed to the coffers.
You'll find that actually it was the fact that the industrial revolution occured in Britian first which made it the world power for much of the 19th century. Britain enjoyed supreme manufacturing power.
Now the crux, GB needed a market for these goods. The Empire aided in this, after all there are and were hundreds of millions of Indians.
Just ask if you need anything.
