bugles made an easy way to make recognozible signals , also audible by everyone, even if out-of line-of-sight (re: charge, retreat, form etc etc..),

drums were used to set pace of marching....

Yes, Xavier is correct. It can, at times, become very noisy during a battle. And ,with your ears ringing from musket fire, a bugle is about the only thing you can still hear.

as Mr. Xavier wrote to cordinate the actions of the troop. Drums and horns were used by every army that time.

I suppose the drums would also steady the nerves of the infantrymen, and maybe even act as a slight morale booster.
