Has anyone read Honorable Defeat and Look Away by William C Davis?Are they a good read on the Confederate states?

I haven't read either of them, but I've known Mr. Davis for a long time; his books are eminently readable. They're mostly not "hard" history, but they are well-researched and well-written. Based on what I've read of his stuff in the past, my guess is that you'd be well-rewarded for putting in the time to read them.
