Good morning all,

The above link tells of the picture of General George Washington crossing the Delaware River for an attack on the Hessians, in the employ of the British.

The picture's artist was a German and the art tour was in 3 prominent German cities.

From memory; the boats General Washington was reported to have used were called "Durham boats". Many historians say he really used a collection of what was available. The crossing (this is not from memory; was in a pulp news article had just read) involved 2,400 troops, 200 horses and 18 cannons.

Apparently the Hessians' defense perimeter was inwardly adjusted for the holidays. After the crossing, Washington's xpeditionary force had to march 8 miles.

The painting is deemed a "founding" feature in US history. My junior high school knowledge centered on Washington standing in a boat without a life vest.

.....

Hope all having a Merry, Happy and SAFE festive week where celebrated.
