Good afternoon all,

Above article tells of a dueling event during the US post Civil War era named "Reconstruction" (1865-1877).

Note the dueling protocol addressed the participants' physical disabilities.

The article's term "sleepy town" also applicable to the other mentioned locations as of today. Just west of Waynesboro is Staunton, birthplace of President Woodrow Wilson and site of Virginia Military Institute.
