Good morning all,

Per title.

Ref Dr Robert Ballard's "Most of the Cold War was fought underwater ... ";

Is it ignorance, arrogance, mental disability, a combination thereof, or just a self-serving statement ?!

MOST of the Cold War was economic warfare.......presuming all this can be measured and compared.

Think of London and New York City. Think of Saudi Oil Minster Sheikh Yamani. Think of France recognizing PR China.

Most of WWII and the Korean War were also unknown matters to the American people.

Greetings to both brother South and the community as a whole. Howdy Bob! Well sir, in respect to your introductory posting of Monday - June 18, 2018 - 11:08pm, old yours truly is more than a wee bit mystified over Mr. Ballard's purported clandestine mission involving the wreck sites of both the U.S.N.S. Thresher and the U.S.N.S. Scorpion. As far as I know, and that's not saying much, there had been bona fide physical investigations to both wreck sites long before Mr. Ballard made his civilian appearance on the world stage. The COLD WAR, as with all wars, was a multidimensional affair where the maritime element was just another dimension of that conflict. I suspect (rightly OR wrongly), that Mr. Ballard was simply embellishing the role and participation of HIS former branch of the military service during the course of the media production in question. And yes, the impact of good old fashioned economics was often one of the more overlooked dimensions of the COLD WAR. It was certainly a contributing factor with the dissolution of the now defunct Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. I do not think that I need to preach to the choir about the not so inconsequential matter of the Military Industrial Complex. Well, that's my initial two cents worth on this topic down to memory lane - for now anyway. In any case, I would like to bid you a copacetic day over in the Old Dominion that is the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Best Regards,
Uncle Bob :idea: :|
