Good evening all,

Above per ...

Note the article's "..the site remained ground zero of the Cold War division that split the world into opposing blocs"
AND
",Checkpoint Charlie is the site of another confrontation, this on putting developers against historians".

I went through Checkpoint Charlie In the 1980's, as part of a tour group. I was surprised at the lack of monitoring, when walking around East Berlin. A popular tourist attraction in West Berlin was a bleacher which offered a view across the Wall. Immediately across were bleachers filled with East Berliners looking across the Wall into West Berlin.
In 1990 I saw the long lines of Trabants on the Autobahn travelling slowly back to East Berlin with mattresses and furniture tied to the outside.
