The South Carolina town was Ellenton.

I am guessing that "a local 20-something named Ellen" and the railroad superintendent wouldn't sell too well at the "and churches, churches, churches".

Besides plutonium: also tritium.

Apparently U.S. Government property appraisals weren't too accurate.
