Good morning all,

UGMP = Underground Monitoring Post.

Article mentions both the underground and above ground posts.

Sidebar: Ref the Royal Observer Corps (ROC) ; "ROC Observers (all volunteers)";
I recall reading about one of these ROC volunteers assigned to watch the coast around the white cliffs of Dover area in prep for WWII. In case of emergency he was to go to the nearby phone booth and phone in his report to his headquarters. So the story goes, the ROC Observer was quoted as saying that the fate of the British empire depended on him having the coins for the phone call.

I do not understand "how times have changed so significantly since the Cold War".
