From 1865 to 1877 was the era called "Reconstruction".

I'm transmitting from an area that was subject to the 1876 deal. US troops left here in 1870.

Don't believe article mentions Jefferson Davis had also been a US Secretary of War. One of his projects was to bring in camels for US Army use.

The article's Eric Foner quote could be subject to challenge.

A major reason - if not THE major reason this US era is "misunderstood" - more accurately: suppressed - is because many of its aspects have not been resolved.
