West German Military Advisors in Taiwan

Post by Edward L. Hsiao » 05 May 2019 00:05

I found two short articles about West German military advisors lead by General Oskar Munzel to improve Taiwan's Military Armed Forces. The Germans were helping with improving Taiwan's military forces from 1963 to 1975. Unfortunately I have trouble finding out what area of the Taiwan's military forces that needs modernization. I need to know what kind of military areas that need improving in Taiwan by the German Military Advisors. What were the West German officer's names that went to Taiwan. I need to know that too. Could you help me please?

It was called the "Ming-teh-Group", lead by Munzel. His successors were major general Paul Jordan (1970 - Jan. 1973) and brigadier Kurt Kauffmann (Jan. 1973 - 1975), both former Wehrmacht officers. In the first years the group consisted of two or three military advisors, later under Kauffmann up to seven officers.

Although I don't know much German,it seems that Chiang Kai-shek of Taiwan wants to renew friendship with Germany (West) for military advice as early as 1950. What was the result of the idea I don't know.
