Since 1917 105 years of western blunders in the Middle east
Since 1917 105 years of western blunders in the Middle east
First the British Empire tried to ally itself with Arab nations 1917-1949 to dominate the Middle east
Second the United States tried to ally itself with Arab Nations 1956...a failed policy that is still going on.....

That's a completely wrong interpretation.
"Everything remained theory and hypothesis. On paper, in his plans, in his head, he juggled with Geschwaders and Divisions, while in reality there were really only makeshift squadrons at his disposal."

Ike understood that Britain and France could not afford their colonies, and certainly their brutal methods to maintain control were a disaster.
Re: Since 1917 105 years of western blunders in the Middle east
Another LAstry2 post consisting of a link to a controversial article.... In this case a piece published by "The Tower.org" Apparently "TheTower.org was founded in January 2013 as a project of TIP, a nonpartisan 501(c)3 educational organization based in Washington D.C. that works to provide facts about Israel and the Middle East to press, policy makers and the public."
TIP may be non partisan but the result looks like rather crude pro-Israeli propaganda.

It's more than 105 years ... It originally dates back to early days of Safavid dynasty!!!
Re: Since 1917 105 years of western blunders in the Middle east
The support for the re-establishment of Israel was a huge mistake. It destabilized the entire region, led to immense suffering, and continues to do so even today.
Jewish nationalists love to point out that post-ww2 Israel was the only safe place for Jews but facts deny it.
The majority of European Jews didn't go to Israel. They went somewhere else, preferably to the US.

The Middle East was one of the places that invented organized warfare, homicidal religions, and the perpetual grudge.

Please, that's straight from American right-wing propaganda, driven mainly by Republicans' hate towards (admittedly buffoonish) Obama and his highly misguided let's show-the-Muslims-lots-of-love efforts.
The Middle East (or, more appropriately, The Ottoman Empire) was a safe haven for the Jews and even European (mostly Polish and Hungarian) freedom fighters. One example is Józef Bem (a national hero of Poland and even more of Hungary), who became the governor of Aleppo (now in Syria.)
The Ottoman Empire liked to outsource the country's administration and even the economy to non-Turks. Mostly Greeks, Armenians, and Jews.
And, in turn, was betrayed by all of them, although admittedly, the Jews supported the Empire the longest and most fervently.

That support vanished rather quickly if we look at Pasha Glubb and the Arab Legion.wm wrote: ↑01 Jul 2022, 23:11The support for the re-establishment of Israel was a huge mistake. It destabilized the entire region, led to immense suffering, and continues to do so even today.

The Arab Legion was nothing more than the usual colonial army. It had nothing to do with the Jews.
The British, cheap bastards, outsourced everything (security, defense, administration) to the natives everywhere it was possible in their colonies.

What about the Safavid dynasty and the West?
What happened? How did the West Countries meddle in Middle East Politics??????

Re: Since 1917 105 years of western blunders in the Middle east
You mean 105 years of arrogant Europeans and Americans interfering in the lives of the people of the Middle East, just like they've been doing to most of the world for the past 5 centuries.

Did really anything change? Transjordan and Palestine were two different colonies (or rather protectorates.)CogCalgary wrote: ↑04 Jul 2022, 12:38It was a complete reversal of policy by the British. What changed?
That they would go to war against each other wasn't planned or even expected.

Perhaps you could clarify something. Was Glubb a servant of the British Empire in entirety at this point? Was he paid as a British soldier at this time?wm wrote: ↑05 Jul 2022, 00:20Did really anything change?
