That is incorrect. I would blame that defeat in Kharkiv on the withdrawal of the Russian army from the Donbass after the taking of the Luhansk Oblast in July, leaving the theatre weakened and barely able to advance.

Kherson is in some respects a pyrrhic victory given that it greatly wore down Ukrainian operational reserves and ammunition supplies but it did tie down the Russian operational reserve at the same time, keeping it away from the Donbass/Kharkiv axis.
UKR losses were pretty light given the rate of advance. Thinking this was some sort of Pyrrhic victory is pure RU copium.

Ukraine will lose the war, the endless excuses are of no value.

Like WW2- just give Russia time to leverage its vast material and manpower superiority.
You mean its vast supplies of T-55 and AK-47 ? It abilities to lose 1.5 million winter uniforms ? Its ability to run out of missiles so it has to ask iran for help ?

RU on paper should have won this war in 3 days. Evidence suggests the UKR are still fighting back. RU can try and play the long game, but its against the clock of a self-destructing economy.

Oh yes, trench warfare as over hundred years ago.

Standing in the mud like in 1917, seems not much has changed since then.

Just as I forecast in an earlier post. Ill equipped, poorly led Russian hordes being mowed down by Ukrainian machine
guns- WW I style. 600 killed on 11/27 alone. As for the Russian artillery, as soon as Ukraine is able to move up sufficient
guns of their own, these guns will be silenced.

Why? Very simply because the Russian guns are considerably outranged. Ukraine will set up at standoff distance and systematically
blow them away with highly accurate fires. Russian guns were already largely in position or nearby. Ukraine has to move them up
and the mud has slowed this down.

Once the ground freezes, I would expect that to change, although the AFU is likely committing quite a bit of its artillery to
decimating the Russian guns on the left bank of the Dnieper which are terrorizing and killing civilians in Kherson at the moment.

More than 2 months since 'partial mobilization', and reported reservists in units is just 50,000 and overall offensive combat use has been limited. This means that their force generation is just 25,000 (12,500 frontline combat troops) per month so far. Reservists have been reported as operating at Kherson Oblast, Kreminna Axis, Donbass (Bahkmut and Marinka), Z-Oblast.

The lion's share have been used to strengthen the defensive power by filling in the overwhelming gaps in the Russian frontline. Then there are a further 80,000 plus training the rear areas.

It's looking more and more like the rumored "winter offensive" will be a spring offensive. The Russian army is prioritizing training over sending reinforcements to the Ukraine and their training programs, first in districts for 2 months and then with units in the Ukraine will make it unlikely that they will be ready for offensive operations in the winter. They would also have to do further large scaled maneuvers with at least 100,000 or 150,000 men, like Volstok with Eastern military District (50,000 men) in the fall. The signs would be obvious by then as there would be massive logistical buildups along Ukraine's borders and in occupied Ukraine.

The bulk of the Russian army's assault units have been in Russia since July 2022. Going forward to the end of the 2022, I think the Russians will continue sending a modest trickle of reservist reinforcements to build up the units occupying Ukraine. By the spring of 2023, the force correlation, which currently favors Ukraine to an extreme extent, will reverse to be something closer to parity, with the Russians being outnumbered incrementally rather than in multiples.

"It is estimated that more than 20,000 civilians and more than 100,000 Ukrainian military personnel have been killed since the start of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, von der Leyen said. "

So the EU has the same view on Ukrainian military deaths as the Russians.

Shoigu 11/30: claimed that 300,000 Russian troops had completed 2-months of refresher training at over 100 training grounds in Russia and Belarus. 3000 instructors involved. 8000 new crews of tanks, armored vehicles, artillery guns, air defense, electronic warfare, and drones.

So the EU has the same view on Ukrainian military deaths as the Russians.
EU chief’s comment on Ukrainian military losses retracted

Ursula von der Leyen had earlier said around 100,000 Kiev troops had been killed to date

A claim about the number of Ukrainian soldiers killed during its conflict with Russia has been removed from a speech by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on the executive’s official website.

“More than 100,000 Ukrainian military officers have been killed so far,” she said during an address earlier on Wednesday, adding that around 20,000 civilians had also died in nine months of fighting. The source of this information was not provided.

However, the reference to Kiev’s death toll soon disappeared from the text of the speech on the European Commission’s website. It was also cut from a video of the address on the website and on von der Leyen’s account on Twitter.

The editing was noticed by some media outlets and social media users, who compared the two versions of the statement online. The move was then officially confirmed by the European Commission.

The EU executive body’s spokeswoman Dana Spinant took to Twitter to thank those who had “pointed out the inaccuracy” in von der Leyen’s speech.

The estimation used, from external sources, should have referred to casualties, i.e. both killed and injured, and was meant to show Russia’s brutality,” she wrote.

3000 instructorcs for 300,000 Orc grunts. What a piss-poor ratio. A guarantee of bad training.

Apparently 100,000 dead Ukrainian soldiers is too low for some groups:

"Irretrievable losses of Ukrainian troops have so far exceeded 200,000 people and are twice as heavy as the estimate presented by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Vladimir Rogov, who heads the We Stand With Russia movement, told TASS on Wednesday."

"Not just the estimates, but the information from Ukrainian hospitals and clinics confirms that. According to information at my disposal, irretrievable losses of Ukrainian militants and national battalions have topped 200,000, and the number of those wounded, often severely wounded people who will never be able to either get employed or return to normal life, is as large," he specified."
