Canadian/US Border incident

#1

Post by ckleisch » 05 Aug 2003, 16:35

About a year ago the history channel presented a show about an incident that occured in disputed territory I believe it was the Northwest Washington State Border with Canada. Prior to the Civil War ie 1840s to 1850s a border clash took place between British garrison troops and US troops about a fort being built in disputed territory. I seem to remember George Picketts name being mentioned as being involved. He later became a confederate general.

Does anyone have familiarity about this battle, the personages and issues involved. Does the battle have a name. I would like to research it some more but cant find anything on the issue.?????

A few links to the Anglo-American “Pig War” border dispute in Washington and the involvement of Captain George E. Pickett of the U.S. 9th Regiment of Infantry.

Indeed the general was dismissed and faded from history. We all know what happened with george pickett.
