You're right, Ironmachine: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_N ... _unveiling.

I've been to the memorial and it's quite impressive. My only regret is that it was befouled by being visited by a certain unspeakable individual:

Well, I would say that the man standing at ease and listening as well as the guy sitting at the head of his table are the same as in this picture:

So that would make it the Billy Mitchell court martial.

Thanks Ironmachine,

Here's another memorial. I don't think it was raised in the inter-war years, but the thing it's commemorating sure happened during that period.

What event is it?

You should have covered the Russian-language inscription on the monument, as it tells the whole story. :)

Hi Aleks,

Yes, I had thought about that, but that would've removed the only discerning feature of it. And since I'm pretty sure that you are about the only person reading this forum that can also read Russian, you can either consider it a freeby from me to you or else let the others figure it out.

It's your choice..

Well, if no one answers in, say, two days, I'll have to volunteer. :)

Best regards, Aleks

As far as I can tell you're not hot at all, Iffig. Unless It really does say that, and that word is somehow related to our subject. But you have to ask Aleks for that, I'm afraid.

Here's a hint: This memorial commemorates an event, or rather a series of events, that together with another similar, yet grander, series of events, was very influential to the outcome of world war 2.

I've been trying to come up with a sensible hint for almost two weeks now, but I can't think of any. So Aleks, it's time to make up on your promise to provide the answer. Otherwise I'll have to give it myslef.

Hi Aleks,

Completely right, and by the similar, yet grander, event I meant Khalkin Gol, of course..
