Ohio/Michigan war of 1835-1836

A topic I am very interested in is something is something I have just recently heard of, a war between Ohio and Michigan that lasted from 1835-1836 that resulted in Ohio taking the city of Toledo,

I looked up Toledo's history in an almanic, and this conflict was listed, does anyone have more history on this confrontation, or other armed conflicts between American states outside of the civil war,

Robert, I seem to recall my 7th grade Ohio History teacher telling us about this war. I *think* it may have had something to do with where the border between Ohio and Michigan was to be. I seem to recall him mentioning that troops had been called up and stationed in northwestern Ohio, but I was unsure if any fighting actually took place. I will look into this more...

Regards,
-Mike

Check out some of these:

I'm glad you brought this topic to the forum, I had fun learning some new, interesting trivia about Ohio and Michigan :D I guess this partly explains the traditional OSU v Michigan football rivalry!

Here's some other stuff I found that I thought was really interesting. I had never heard of either of these before:

An old (published in 1926) but interesting book on the establishment of the national and state borders of the U.S. is "The Romance of the Boundaries", by John T. Faris.

It has eighteen chapters on as many conflicts explaining how the boundaries came to be as they are now.

Ever wonder why Minnesota is the only one of the lower forty-eight states to extend beyond the 49th parallel, or how the San Juan Islands came to be part of the U.S., instead of Canada? The answers are all here!

(Interestingly, the German Kaiser had a hand in the latter affair.)
