East German Collector's Reference Books Data Base

Post by PaulReck » 24 Apr 2006 12:03

I am attempting to build a data base of the DDR collecting references out there! I will start with mine. Please post any different references you may have. I do not know of too many more reference books outside of what I am posting, so if you have one that I do not, please do post it here as well!

Also, I have not been able to find a nice book in the English language.

Again, if you have a reference book that I do not have scanned here, please post an image!

A very nice DDR(1977) published book on medals and order. All illustrations are in color! One of the best medals and orders books I have seen despite the age of the book.

This catalog contains pricing for medals, badges, pins, and insignia. Lots of black and white photos. Published for the 1998/99 time period.

That is all that I have. Again, please post scans of your books!!!

Thank you very much for posting these references- I'm just starting to collect East German items and would love to get my hands on one of these guides. Do you have any recommended vendors?

Strangely enough, I picked them all up via Ebay. The best buys were on http://www.ebay.de.

I dont even know of a seller who sells these books. A long time ago, there was a uniform seller who had a very limited number of these books... and they were very very expensive.

Here is someone selling all three of the books in the series of "Uniformeffeckten der bewaffneten Organe der DDR" for 145 Euro. Dont know what the going rates are for these books so I cannot tell you if the price is fair... but this is the only set I have seen in the world for this series(I checked all of the various Ebay. sites)!

If you do not want to pay that price, you could by the computer CD that Kirk is selling of Vol 1 and 2, for 20 dollars. It is basically the books scanned to CD.

Also, I have found a very reasonably priced book, "Militärische Uniformen in der DDR 1949-1990" by Kunz and
Keubke

I am thinking that this is yet another edition of the two books I have in my first and second post(these first two books actually have the very same information)!

I hope that I was able to help.

Thank you,

I was looking into purchasing that disc that features the book scans... Do you own that by any chance and if so, can you tell me if it's worth buying?

Hi Polygon,

I only have volume two in the book format. The book is loaded with great information, although it is in German. I have not purchased the CD. Maybe someone else has who can give their opinion?

Is the above the most current edition of the first book you mentioned?

Hi Marcus,

I do not have that first book you posted. What is the main topic? Medals? Uniforms?

You are correct, the book you listed is a reprint of the first book I listed.

Ironically, the first book I posted is a later edition of the second book I posted! I did not know it was the same when I bought it!
