Aerial Photographs of Finland/Northern Russia
I'm having trouble finding aerial photography from the WWII era online. I specifically am looking for aerial images of: Viipuri, Taipale, Summa, Suomussalmi, Petsamo, Helsinki, etc. I found some of Leningrad via http://www.wwii-photos-maps.com/ , they seem to be the only quality archive I can find. I'll show some of the photos below. If anyone knows of any quality aerial archives that house such photos online, that would be great.

Re: Aerial Photographs of Finland/Northern Russia
Yeah, it has only a few, and only in the Leningrad area, none in Finland.
Re: Aerial Photographs of Finland/Northern Russia
All of the film negatives of aerial photographs taken of pre-war or future Soviet Union territory were handed over to the Soviet Union after the Continuation War. Only a few paper contact prints exist at various Finnish archives. To the best of my knowledge, there were no Finnish aerial photograph flights over Petsamo or Suomussalmi between 1940 and 1944.sean_the_great48 wrote: ↑06 Aug 2018, 20:06I'm having trouble finding aerial photography from the WWII era online. I have started to digitise some of these contact prints and I will post them to my web site at www.traditional.fi as I'm finished. Currently I have only one set of photographs ready, Finnish Air Force Aerial Photographs of Downtown Leningrad, 9 February 1943
See also aerial photographs of Helsinki taken in 1934, 1943, 1950, 1964, 1976, 1988 and 2014

Great, I'm curious if there are any of Suomussalmi from the 30s, same as with Taipale and Summa etc.

- 17 October 1939. Koukkuniemi.
- 1 February 1940. Kuolemajärvi, Muolaanjärvi, Summa.
- 14 February 1940. Kämärä and Kaukjärvi.
- 17 February 1940. Kämärä and Summa.
- 25 February 1940. Kaislahti and Kämärä.
- 26 February 1940. Kämärä and Kaukjärvi.
- 27 February 1940. Kollaa.
- 1 March 1940. Saunasaari and Suulajärvi.
There are some late 1930s and late 1940s paper maps laid over an aerial photograph (ilmakuvakartta) of what is now Finland that are kept in the National Archives of Finland. These are catalogued by the grid number that corresponds to the modern map grid system. The rest are probably held by the National Land Survey of Finland (Maanmittauslaitos).
