Re: border between Finland and the SU shortly after WWII
thanks a lot for your post. were these border adjustment executed on a reciprocal basis? I mean Finland would get the same amount of land for any area given to the SU?

As far as I know, a fence at the border was built twice - in 1940 and in 1944. You can see a Finnish photo of Russian fence from 1941. Fence was installed in 1 km from the border (cropped from SA-kuva 25720). For example, in 1944 26th Army began fencing the borderline (Kuusamo region, North Karelia) in the end of Septemberknokkelmann1 wrote: ↑11 Nov 2018, 01:39so this is how the border looked like between Finland and the SU in the south of the border area or some other parts of the border (especially in the north) were virtually unguarded for some time?
Record from war diary of 26th Army: "3/577 Infantry regiment works on the fence of the restricted area near Kesten'ga (Kiestinki)…"

Some adds. This movie is based on real event. Herman Wist (1883-1963) had a silversmith factory in St. Petersburg, which he transferred to Kaipala village in Uusikirkko parish after the revolution in Russia. The factory had about 30 workers and provided silverware for goldsmith shops around Finland. At the beginning of Winter War inhabitants of Uusikirkko were evacuated so quickly that most of the Wist’s silver had to hide under the floor. During the interwar peace in June 1941 his son, Eugen Wist transferred about 40 kg of silver to Finland.
Members of expedition:
Eugen Konrad Wist (20.09.1920 Kaipala, Uusikirkko – 6.07.1944, Noskuanselkä) staff sergeant and member of long-range patrol.
Urpo Lempiäinen, later Esa Anttala (26.09.1917, Uusikirkko – 21.11.1977, Lahti) – sergeant, member of long-range patrol, later Finnish writer who wrote, based on his own experiences, about the Continuation War's long-range missions.
Toivo Paavilainen (21.9.1918, Helsinki - 19.7.1941, Nujamaa) – second lieutenant, member of long-range patrol.
The main task of patrol – reconnaissance of Russian troops just before the outbreak of Continuation War. The patrol crossed the border in Nuijamaa on June 4, 1941, and returned back to Finland on June 16th. Later Paavilainen and Wist were KIA.
