30 000 FDF photographs to be digitized

^^I got a tip to ask about Tampella archive at ELKA in Mikkeli. And what do you know, they promptly provided me with six drawings as how to apply the three-color camo on various guns and mortars.

Here's the mortar drawings, first the summer version

* Grey n:o 1
* Moss green n:o 2
* Sand brown n:o 3



... and here's the winter version:

* White n:o 4
* Blue-gray n:o 5

I found a post at pienoismallit.net regarding the work Purhonen, Muikku et al did on researching old paint samples of equipment storaged still in the original paint (link in Finnish).

There, J. Lindgren posted he chose these Federal Standard paint chips as best representing what was found:

- Grey: FS 36306
- Moss Green: FS 24079
- Sand Brown: FS 30097 or 30040

While this is not exact science, I thought to post these here to keep the information available.

Out of curiosity, I also quickly tried to colorise (is that a word?) a 120mm mortar found at SA-kuva.fi. It came out like this.

Note: not to be taken too seriously, at best we can deduce that on left there is the original picture, on right a picture a guy in the internet colored )

A good suggestion Esa, surely worth a thread of its own, so created one. I asked a further question there, of having RAL codes for each Finnish camo scheme colour. Would you happen to have that information that you could share with us?

The Finnish Defence Forces will digitise the remainder of its photographic archives, spanning from the 1910s to the the modern day. The first 70 000 photographs will be made available for public during the end of the year or beginning of 2019.

The archive containing peacetime photographs has been now (unofficially) released at https://prodkumepa.puolustusvoimat.fi/view/53 . There might be some problems downloading certain photographs.

It seems that there is a cap on downloads on 8388608 bytes so pictures bigger than that only download partially.
There are a few wartime photos there too like this Aerial photo of Ihantala dated 28.7.1944.
