- Helsinki in May 1943 and today, a comparison made from the high-resolution aerial photograph available at the National Land Survey of Finland's site. - Notice Psl. Väinämöinen passing the strait between Korkeasaari and Laajasalo islands.

Re: Maps
Helsinki 1943 aerial orthophotos are also available here in tiff/geotiff format: http://www.hri.fi/fi/data/helsingin-ortokuva-1943/
I also noticed Väinämöinen (which seems to be moored after all). Harbours of Helsinki seem to be quite empty, and most of the ships are warships. There are at least two submarines with supply ship at northern side of Katajanokka (could be German, or Finnish) and four subs in Suomenlinna, Tykistölahti. Plenty of other warships too, some can be recognised from their shadows. There is also a floating drydock at Katajanokka.
AA-battery at Käpylä, Taivaskallio is also visible among other interesting "targets"

Re: Maps
Only three subs at Suomenlinna unless I'm mistaken. The fourth - jammed next to the pier - appears to be former 'gunboat' Matti Kurki or Klas Horn. Sort of wondering what is the supply ship the subs are with at Katajanokka... While it has bathtub like shape it is far too long to be Louhi (which was only 50 m long, while Vetehinen type subs were over 60 m long).
EDIT: And yes, the pair of the ships seem to be Ruotsinsalmi and Riilahti - the other pair a bit to the west could be auxiliary gunboats Viena and Aunus but it is hard to tell, they could just as well be German Vorpostenboots or then again just civilian ships (even though one of them appears to have 'gun circle' on its deck'.

Re: Maps
Could be icebreaker Sisu, although I haven't checked its dimensions.Sort of wondering what is the supply ship the subs are with at Katajanokka
Edit: Length of Sisu was 65,26 m. Seems to fit if the sub next it is Vetehinen class. And Sisu was indeed "mothership" of Submarine flotilla during war summers.

Re: Maps
In southeastern quay of Katajanokka there seems to be a warship. Seems to be too long to be Finnish. It has two funnels. Probably some German visitor?

Re: Maps
Clearly a warship - and given that there wasn't much of a choice it pretty much has to be German warship. From length comparison it appears to be around 80 m long and has twin funnels... And funnels seem to be roughly in the center of the ship instead of being more in the front section. So... I suppose it could be smallest of the German Torpedoboots or then some of the German Flottenbegleiters (escorts) - just guessing though?
