I'm keeping parental vacation for 3 weeks from now, I try to update our progress when i return to work.
Great news, aahoo!

What is the latest information as how the great public, ie. us, would get access to these photographs?

I think they are going to be available to public at somepoint, maybe PV kuvakeskus has more info about it.

First patch is send back to PVKK, all winterwar negatives and some thousand from cont.war, I guess they will be ready soon.

Pictures will be for sale, digital ones, that is what I understood when we were told about it. We scanned them 300dpi, 42 * 30cm, quality should be atleast adequate.

Thanks for keeping us posted. Do you know about the Continuation War pictures. I understood some 20 000 pictures were hidden after war, as they "compromised" our new relations with the Eastern neighbour. Do you know are all available pictures being scanned?

Source for the hidden pictures: Sodan taisteluja 3, describing the efforts of TK-men etc.

We are scanning all pictures, or atleast all what they bring to us, there have been some negatives missing, i dont know if they are just lost or taken away, most cases there are no notes about reason why they are not present with them.

Ok, we are now scanning negatives from continuation war, there has been few with "Secret" stamp on them and no description, most of those are showing dead soviet soldiers or finnish soldiers, some of them are quite grim to watch.

We will scan 100000 negatives, from 1941 to early 1942.

First patch , about 100000, should be scanned by 1.6.2011 or atleast most of them.
But, I dont know about PVVK (Puolustusvoimien kuvakeskus) timetable, and do they release these to public.

National Board of Antiquities has uploaded some 30 000 new photographs to its online collection kuvakokoelmat.fi. The collection of photographs include at least 700 photographs from the Winter, Continuation and Lapland Wars. The photographs are available in high-quality but with watermarks on them.

The word on the street is that the Finnish Defence Forces are going to released all of the digitised photographs to public domain in the Internet (equipped with a small watermark) in matter of weeks or months. Do not ask where I heard this or is the above statement the 100 % truth.

Hi Martti:

Unfortunately, the SA kuvagalleria website does not seem to be ready yet.
You can get the front page but when you try to go to the Finnish/Swedish/English version it just hangs in the air trying to find the site.

The other site seems to work OK.

Bill
