Info needed on Finnish sniper

Post by Qvist » 03 May 2003 19:19

Some time ago, I saw mention of a Finn who apparently had the highest number of kills of any sniper in any army. Can anyone tell me who that was, and perhaps even direct me to some English-language information about him on the web?

cheers, and thanks in advance

Qvist,

Simo Häyhä
Quick search gave one link:
http://my_gunsite.tripod.com/mygunsite/id25.html not very informative, hope this helps.
He used open sights (for to get lower aim), and the longest distance for a score was IIRC 450m.

Regards, Juha

Name is Simo Häyhä, farmer from Karelian Isthmus, 500+ kills during 2 months in Winter War until Soviet exploding bullet wounded him badly. He died not so long time ago.

Some sites about him:

1st April 2002, IIRC.

P.S. In May 2001 I met a group of people who had just met Häyhä. Häyhä had told them about a kill from 400+ meters dropping a Russian from a tree, and one of the group told me that Häyhä said: "...se putos kuin roiven."

...words from the man himself. :)
