From 18 July to 25 July FiAF pilots claimed 17 fighters (majority in Vuosalmi-Äyräpää) aircraft and 5 Il-2 (Bay of Vyborg, Seiskari, Narvi etc) . I have no idea of true losses of 13 VA and VVS KBF in Karelian Istmus and Bay of Vyborg, especially when Narva offensive was opened.

01.07.44:
All right
1 Airacobra (196 IAP) shot down in air combat pilot Ostarenko DOW, Gerhard Thyben 5./JG 54 claimed Airacobra at 13.22? - Also claimed by Nils Katajainen HleLv 34, departure time 13.10–14.10.

Of the three downed Yak-9x, I counted that 2 were on account of Finnish fighters, and one on account of German ones.

02.07.44:
Where does the information come from that the 191 IAP lost 2 La-5s? According to all the documents that I saw the loss was only one La-5 (Shiyanov).

According to data from documents, 277 ShAD lost 1 Il-2 from fighters. He was shot down on 07/02/44 Uffz. Josef Quarda 4./JG 54 Il-2; 82 698: at 100 m. 20.32
281 ShAD irretrievably lost 5 Il-2. One was shot down by AA, four were shot down by Finnish fighters.
Another 3 Il-2 281st ShAD were damaged by fighters and made forced landings at airfields.

02.07.44 total 8 aircraft destroyed in battle, 3 to force landing.

According C.F Geust

2 July 44

Morning:
275 IAD, 191 IAP:
ml.lt A.S. Shiyanov, KIA La-5 c/n 2305 shot down in air combat with 2 BF109s 1.5 km NW Perojoki.
ml.lt Mitrohin, apparently OK La-5 damaged in air combat with 2 BF109s at Viipuri.

kapt S.N. Makashev KIA, P-39 Nr. 20490 shot down in air combat at Pietilä.

viewtopic.php?f=59&t=200685&start=15

In this case i followed his study that there was another La-5 loss. He also mentioned loss of 10 Il-2s of which 2 depot for repairs, not 3.

277 ShAD, 15 GvShAP:
1) lt I.A. Musatenko KIA, kr-ts V.I. Nekrasov, KIA, Il-2 c/n 304764, shot down in air combat. (shot down by II./JG54 Josef Guarda)

Evening, Lappeenranta attack

the rest in aircombat (FiAF pilots)
3) ml.lt V.V. Semyshkin KIA, jefr F.R. Iljnitskiy KIA, Il-2 c/n 10485, shot down in air combat, crashed 15 km S Lappeenranta.
4) ml.lt V.I. Lapshin DOW, ser F.A.Stolyarov WIA, Il-2 c/n 303178, shot down in air combat crashed S Viipuri.
5) ml.lt E.G. Sannikov OK, jefr F.K.Nemykin DOW, Il-2 c/n 9622, hits in air combat 6 km S Viipuri, belly landing near Tainionsuo.
6) ml.lt V.N. Suhorukov WIA, star N.H. Yeloyev OK, Il-2 c/n 3608, hits in air combat, forced landing at Maksalahti. Aircraft to depot (rembaza) for repairs.
7) lt M.D. Nikishin OK, V. Batizada OK, Il-2 made forced landing between front lines ("no man´s land") after hits in air combat. Note: Nikishin HSU 23.2.1945.

281 ShAD, 703 ShAP:
8) lt Sharov OK, Ivanov OK, Il-2 made belly landing after hits in air combat; to depot (rembaza) for repairs.

281 ShAD, 872 ShAP:
9) ml.lt V.V. Sokolov WIA, ml.ser I.S. Batrushin WIA, Il-2 c/n 304804, crash-landed near own base after hits in air combat at Kolkkala.
10) lt P.S. Glazkov WIA, ml.lt N.M. Lonchakov KIA, Il-2 c/n 10530, crash-landed SE Viipuri after hits in air combat.

But according this https://pamyat-naroda.ru/documents/view ... e981a788v1 281 ShAD admitted losses: 5 Il-2 did not return their airbases and 1 Il-2 lost when landing on airbase. 3 pilots and 5 gunners lost.

Il-2 losses in 3 July seems to have been 2 for 281 ShAD but one (448 ShAP) was accident during take off. Aircraft written off, crew OK. The other (872 ShAP, pilot Starina gunner Sudakov) was shot down by Fw-190 (Rudorffer or Tangerman). Made landing 3 km south from Vyborg. Crew to hospital. According some reports of 277 ShAD it didn't admit any losses on that day while at least this report mentioned 2 Il-2 lost (by enemy fighters) https://pamyat-naroda.ru/documents/view ... 0e2de439v1

FiAF claimed 7 Il-2 and Rudorffer/Tangerman 6 Il-2. So combat losses of 277 ShAD and 281 ShAD might actually have been 3 Il-2? No Il-2 crew losses found.

2 July 44

Morning:
275 IAD, 191 IAP:
ml.lt A.S. Shiyanov, KIA La-5 c/n 2305 shot down in air combat with 2 BF109s 1.5 km NW Perojoki.
ml.lt Mitrohin, apparently OK La-5 damaged in air combat with 2 BF109s at Viipuri.
Four La-5 191 IAPs fought from the beginning with 2 Me-109, which were joined by another 2 Me-109, which shot down La-5 Shiyanov with a surprise attack.
275 IAD, IAP unknown (159 or 191 IAP):
lt Pikin returned to his unit (escaped by parachute?), La-5 went missing (unclear case).
In general, there is no information about this in the available documents.

In total, 275 IAD lost 2 fighters in battle.

Losses of the 281st ShAD according to the report on the raid on the Lappeenranta airfield:

Il-2 448 ShAP, pilot Lieutenant Gusakov, shot down by AA over the airfield.
Presumably shot down by fighters on enemy territory: 2 Il-2 448 ShAP, pilots ml. l-t Semyshkin - shooter Ilnitsky and pilot ml. l-t Lapshin - shooter Stolyarov.
(1 IL-2 448 ShAP, pilot Jr. l-t Sannikov - on a plane knocked out by fighters reached the Bobochino airfield and made an emergency landing. Shooter Nemykin is killed.)
(1 Il-2 448 ShAP, pilot sergeant major Sukhorukov - shooter Yeloyev, made an emergency landing at the Makhsalahti airfield on the plane hit by fighters.)
1 IL-2 872 ShAP, pilot lieutenant Glazkov - gunner Lonchakov, shot down by fighters. On a wrecked plane, he made an emergency landing in the Vyborg area, the plane was crashed.
1 Il-2 872 ShAP, pilot lieutenant Sokolov, on a damaged plane reached the airfield. On the circle, the engine stopped, the plane fell onto the wing and crashed. The pilot survived, the shooter Batryshev received severe bruises.
(1 IL-2 703 ShAP, when landing at an airfield with punctured tires, tended to stand on the nose. Upon hitting the ground, the tail fell off. Most likely the tires have been pierced by enemy fire. The fate of the aircraft is not clear. It is not written that the plane has been decommissioned.)
Precisely lost irrevocably 5 IL-2.

The pilots of 448 ShAP made claims for 3 Me-109.
Il-2 448 ShAP lt M.D. Nikishin OK, V. Batizada OK, made forced landing between front lines ("no man´s land") after hits in air combat.
This information is not included in the report.

03.07.44: 1 Il-4 shot down in air combat - shot down by FiAF pilot (4 Il-4 claims) , no Il-4 claims from II./JG54
3 Yak-9 shot down in aircombat: likely one by Thyben 5./JG54 and two by FiAF pilots:

03.07.44: 1 Hawk (191 IAP) shot down in air combat, pilot Danchevsky, Nikolay KIA - none of pilots claimed Warhawk on that day
03.07.44: 2 Il-2 (281 ShAD) shot down in aircombat (against 2 Fw-190 ) - shot down likely by Erich Rudorffer Stab II./JG54 after 7 am.
03.07.44: 2 Il-2 (277 ShAD) 277 ShAD report 2 Il-2 lost in air combat (both bf-109 and Fw-190 mentioned) FiAF had 7 Il-2 claims at 11-12 am, Rudorffer/Tangermann after 7 am.

Everything is accurate, only 1 Il-2 of the 281st ShAD was defeated during takeoff, not a combat loss.
And the loss of the La-5 from the VVS KBF is not combat.
07: 02-08: 05. Two La-5s from the 10th Guards Air Force KBF (led. Puchkov) flew to intercept in the area of the Main Naval Base (Main Naval Base). There were no meetings with the enemy. Puchkov did not return from the mission. According to observations of air defense posts, he fell from a great height in the Tamengont area. Southern part of the Gulf of Finland, on the line of Kotlin Island.

05.07.44: 1 Il-2 shot down by AA, not mentioned in sources of 277 and 281 ShAD - Presumably the Il-2 was from reconnaissance or correction units.
(05.07.44: 1 Airacobra (196 IAP) shot down in air combat, pilot Rodin arrived to unit?? shot down by FiAF pilot) - A mistake, there were no losses in the Airacobras, Rodin was shot down the previous day.
(05.07.44: 1 Yak-9 (27 GIAP, PVO) guards sgnt Vakulenko Nikolay Maksimovich killed in plane crash (Погиб в авиационной катастрофе))
05.07.44: 1 LaGG-3 (11 IAP, VVS KBF) shot down in coast of Vyborg, at 10 a.m in air battle with 10 bf-109, aliluutn Semjon Bednyagin MIA. Shot down by FiAF pilot (3 claims) - At 11.00, two Lagg-3s from the 11th IAP, while covering the Il-2 from the 13th Artillery AE, were attacked by 10 Me-109s. As a result of the battle, one Lagg-3 was shot down, but in response, one Me-109 was declared shot down. Probably Maj Eino Luukkanen or L. Aaltonen achieved aerial victory.
(05.0744: 1 Il-2 VVS KBF (13 AAE KBF) luutn Pavel Kirichenko, MIA Teikarsaari (Il-2) fire correction aircraft?, Luukkanen, Vesa and Riihikallio had Il-2 claims in Bay of Vyborg 09.25-10.55) - This loss is not found in the Chronicle of the Baltic War.

total…..2 combat losses

The battles of Finnish fighters against VVS KBF fighters did not end warmly, not in favor of the Finns. They shot down 1 Lagg-3 and lost 2 Bf-109G MT-476 Nils Katajainen and MT-432 Paavo Myllyla.

The VVS KBF fighter claimed 8 victories in these battles: 1 Fw 190, 7 Bf 109G

Thank you, interesting. The losses of Finnish fighters are mostly known to me. I am not aware of the losses of the Blenheims. 14.06.44 pilots of the 2nd GIAK PVO announced downed 2 Blenheim. I wonder if the Finnish Blenheims suffered losses?

06.07.44: 1 Yak-9 (14 GIAP )shot down in air combat, pilot Beljajev MIA POW, Gerhard Thyben 5./JG 54 had claim 12.09, Wernicke 5./JG 54 15.40 no FiAF claims of Yak-9
(06.07.44: 1 Yak-9 (29 GIAP) lost in accident, pilot Titarenko unharmed)
(06.07.44: 1 Airacobra (196 IAP) lost in accident)
06.07.44: 1 Il-2 (277 ShAD) shot down by AA, plane crashed near Vuoksi (crew pilot Galatshev and Filippov KIA)
Yak-9 14 GIAP Belyaev shot down Gerhard Thyben 5./JG 54. His claim is fully consistent.
In the combat diary of the 13th VA it is recorded that in addition to the downed Yak-9 of the 14th GIAP (Belyaev), another 2 Yak-9 and 1 P-39 were damaged in air battles and made forced landings. In the diary of the 275th IAD, this is not mentioned. The report for July 275 IAD recorded 1 Yak-9 29 GIAP Titarenko crashed, broken. Also, 1 P-39 of 196 IAP pilot Jr. Lieutenant Potin suffered an accident, broken.
There is not enough information, perhaps these accidents are related to military operations.

08.07.44: 1 Yak-9 (29 GIAP) shot down in air combat, pilot Boikov arrived to unit - presumably shot down by pilots II./JG 54, 3 claims
08.07.44: 1 La-5 (159 IAP) shot down in air combat, pilot Simonov died. Pilots had none La-5 claims - This loss is found only in the 275 IAD report for July. There is no such loss in the diary of the 13th VA and in the diary of the 275th IAD. Perhaps Simonov was shot down the other day.

Total……...2 combat losses (1 loss possible)
09.07.44: 1 Yak-9 (14 GIAP) shot down in air combat at Vuoksi, Kylä Paakkola?, pilot Godizov? KIA

Everything is accurate.
Godizov (departing from 22.51 - 22.41) shot down Wernicke 6./JG54
Of the other two downed Yak-9s, I counted that 1 was shot down by the Germans, the other by the Finns.
All three Il-2 277 ShAD were shot down by Finnish fighters.

total…..2 combat losses (1 by AA) II./JG 54 claimed 4 Yak-9s (3 Yaks 10.25-10.32 and 1 14.05), no FiAF claims
I considered that both Yak-9s were shot down by pilots II./JG 54

15.07.44: 1 Yak-9 (14 GIAP) shot down by AA, pilot Neporada KIA, Myanike alue? Болото-Суо? - claim time is the same Uffz. Josef Quarda 4./JG 54
15.07.44: 1 Yak-9 (VVS KBF) shot down by AA near Suursaari - Not Vyborg Bay, I didn't count this loss

16.07.44: 1 Yak-9 (14 GIAP) shot down in air combat,Vuosalmi-Metsola area?, pilot Skylyarenkon Ivan did not return - shot down by Finnish Me-109
16.07.44: 1 Yak-9 (14 GIAP) shot down in air combat, pilot Ovechkin Gennady KIA - shot down by Finnish Me-109
16.07.44: 1 La-5 (191 IAP) shot down in air combat, aircraft crashed, pilot major Litvinenko unharmed

191 IAP suffered a loss that day, 1 La-5 regiment, pilot Major T.A. Litvinenko. (19 victories GSS-2.11.44) was damaged in combat, while landing at the airfield, the plane was crashed, the pilot was unharmed.
According to the pilots of the 191 IAP, they fought the Fw 190. On this basis, I assumed that Litvinenko was shot down by the pilots II./JG54. (?)

17.07.44: 1 Yak-9 (14 GIAP) got hit in air combat, aircraft to swamp, pilot to hospital

1 Yak-9 of 14 GIAP, Yak-9 No. 0968 was shot down in combat and landed in a forced swamp, the plane cannot be removed, the pilot is in the hospital.
I thought that this victory was due to the Finnish Me-109s.

total….1 combat loss

Pilot loss report list mentioned that jr ltn Nikolai Simonov (born 1922) was deceased 8 July 44. The reason: catastrophe катастрофа. That maybe be the reason why it was not in combat loss report.

Koshelev was written in July loss list as 11th case of 159 IAP (11.7.44), not really 11.7.44. My mistake. It was loss in July but not likely 11 July 44, the day unknown. Also mentioned deceased 07.08.44 but why then he was on July 44 loss list of 275 IAD?

Would you mind if I ask further questions?

1) Was Airacobra loss (196 IAP) in 2 July early morning (6-8 a.m) or little bit later?

2) Two Il-2 losses of 277 ShAD, 3 July, early morning (6-8 a.m) or later?

3) Kittyhawk(191 IAP) loss time, 3 July?

4) Was there any fighter (or any aircraft) combat losses linked to Karelian Istmus/Bay of Vyborg from 18 July to 25 July 44? Montly report of 275 IAD mentioned some but were these losses in Karelian Isthmus/Bay of Vyborg or e.g in Narva-Eastonia? Also one loss of 283 IAP but it was 22 July and on airbase landing or take off accident (Heinjoki?)

Personal losses of 283 IAP, 13 VA:
22.7.44: Krasnoshtanov Dmitry, Heinjoki, KIA, catastrophe.

I have found these of 275 IAD :
24.7.44: Yak-9 (14 GIAP) did not return, Belikov MIA
24.7.44: Yak-9 (14 GIAP) did not return, Novikov KIA
(22.7.44: Yak-9 (29 GIAP) catastrophe, Shostak) killed
(19.7.44: La-5 (159 IAP) accident, fly from Levashevo to Lyadshi, pilot Dunicev slightly injured)
31.7.44: La-5 (159 IAP) did not return, Belokopytov KIA
20.7.44: La-5 (159 IAP) did not return, Gorjuko?
(26.7.44: La-5 (159 IAP) accident, Pavlenko)
Case of Koshelev might also have been in late July?

31.7.44: La-5 (191 IAP), accident? Ostrovskij?
(31.7.44: La-5 (191 IAP) catastrophe, Kaljin?)
25.7.44: Yak-1 (196 IAP) did not return. Babaev
26.7.44: Yak-1 (196 IAP) did not return, Potin KIA
31.7.44: Yak-1 (196 IAP) did not return, Efimov KIA

Claims of FiAF until 20 July 44 mostly in Äyräpää-Vuosalmi after that Seiskari-Narvi-Someri-Tammio (air battles against VVS KBF) namely:

19 July: 3 Yak-9 and 1 La-5 (all Äyräpää-Vuosalmi)
20 July: 3 La-5 (all Äyräpää-Vuosalmi)
22 July: 1 La-5 and 1 Il-2 (Seiskari-Narvi, eastern Gulf of Finland)
23 July: 1 La-5 (Heinjoki)
25 July: 5 Il-2, 2 La-5 and 1 Yak-9 (eastern Gulf of Finland, Someri-Tammio-Lavansaari)

Thanks for the information.

Yes, I didn’t see it either, La-5 pilot Simonov, 8 July 44 crashed in a plane crash while flying from an airfield to another airfield.

Koshelev was most likely shot down not on July 11. If this happened at the end of July, it might not have happened on the Karelian Isthmus. But in the diary of the 275th IAD in the last ten days of July, there is no Koshelev in the losses. For now, I consider it shot down on the Karelian Isthmus.

Unfortunately, it is not always possible to find the departure time. It can be found if aerial combat is described in documents. but they are described selectively, by no means all.
