Hunting spies instead of tanks.

date 25.12.1939

00.10hrs Coy CO ordered a patrol 1+2 to find out about the aforementioned.
01.00hrs The patrol returned, having found no one.
01.20hrs Report to Div. about the flare .
21.20hrs Sentry reported that a green flare has been fired in the direction of the Kämärä road.
21.25hrs Company sent several patrols to check the terrain in the direction of the Kämärä road.
22.25hrs Another flare in the same direction was spotted.

00.10hrs All patrols have returned. They did not meet any suspicious people.
The flare spotted at 21.20hrs: direction 14-00, 20.25 flare: direction 04-00. 21.20 observation was followd by an enemy artillery strafe in the direction of the observation.
01.15hrs The observation reported to the Div. By phone.
06.30hrs Situation report to Er.P3. The flares were reported, else nothing special. Nothing special in the course of the day.
15.00hrs Situation report to the Battalion. Nothing special.
18.00hrs The Company set up an ambush patrol at the Kaukjärvi-Kämärä road, strength 1+4
24.00hrs The patrol returned. No flares spotted, and nothing else to report.

Easy day for the “satchel charge company” but for example fort “Poppius” is badly damaged by heavy shells.

03.00hrs Col. Lt Vaala's alert by telephone, requested one Platoon for AT securing to the Support line, because several tanks were roaming in no-man's land. IV Platoon was ferried to the front on lorries and the Coy CO set out to the Command Post of Col.Lt. Vaala.
06.30hrs Situation report to the Battalion by telephone: aforementioned reported. III Platoon that was in the front did not see action.
15.00hrs Situation report to the Battalion: Nothing special. Coy CO and IV Platoon still in the front.
15.30hrs Division order by telephone: Send at once one Platoon to AT securing and patrolling to the direction of the Lähde-Leipäsuo road. It was reported that tanks were trying to break through the Main defence line. II Platoon took this task and set out.
The remaining men were refurbishing the dugouts.
20.00hrs Platoon Pusa returned from the front line by order of Col.Lt. Hagelberg. No AT action.
21.05hrs Platoon Pitkänen returned led by the Coy CO from the front line, did not see action.

19.33hrs Sentry reported: one white flare launched in the direction of the Kämärä-Kaukjärvi road, bearing right East, followed immediately by enemy artillery strafe at the point.
19.45hrs Two patrols sent to the direction of Kämärä-Kaukjärvi road by the order of Coy CO. At the same time reported by telephone to the Battalion and the Division.
24.00hrs Patrols returned, nothing special.

5.D that has been in action since the start of the war is being relieved by 6.D., the reserve of the GHQ. 5.D including Er.P.3 shall be pulled back to the Intermediate defence line in the course of the following days to fortification work.

The Company is in the lodging area except Platoon Pitkäpaasi in the front. Nothing special.

Er.P3 is detached from JR13 and attached to JR23.

06.00hrs Platoon Puhtimäki relieved Platoon Pitkäpaasi in the front line. Nothing special.
18.00hrs Sentries sent out to the Kämärä-Kaukjärvi road direction.
18.30hrs Due to change of Regiment the Coy CO set out to contact the CO of JR8.
21.15hrs Coy CO returned.
24.00hrs Sentries returned, nothing special.

18.20hrs Col. Lt. Pirilä (JR23 CO, tr.rem.) order: Company must send an outfit to destroy at the Munasuo sector two immobilised but functioning tanks.
18.45hrs Platoon Pitkänen ferried with lorries to the abovementioned task.
18.00hrs Two patrols were sent out to the direction of the main and supply roads.
22.35hrs Platoon Pitkänen returned to cantonment. The men of the Regiment had already destroyed one immobilised tank and no other tanks were seen.

06.00hrs Col.Lt. Pirilä alerted, IV Platoon was sent N of Munasuo to AT duty.
Several tanks were reported to be moving about on Munasuo.
The other platoons were maintaining satchel charges and mines.
The sauna was completed.
06.30hrs Situation report to ErP.3.
12.45hrs 1.Coy sent by Battalion order a squad of 2+8 to reinforce the Company.
15.00hrs Situation report to ErP.3.
17.45hrs Platoon Pitkänen returned from AT duty by order of Col.Lt. Pirilä to the cantonment. They did not see action.
18.00hrs Two patrols were sent out to the direction of the main and supply roads.
