22.00hrs Report by Res. 2nd Lt. Pusa: At 12.00hrs enemy artillery scored a bullseye on Fort Poppius, whereby six men of the platoon got a slight concussion and the men were taken to the first aid post of I/JR8.

06.00hrs Platoon Pitkänen relieved Puhtinen's platoon in the Merkki sector.
06.30hrs 2nd Lt Simonen, the leader of the MG platoon previously subordinated to the Company, reported by phone from the front line at Merkki sector that he had three men of his platoon lightly wounded by shell splinters. The men had been evacuated to the first aid post of I/JR8. He asked to relay this information to the command post of Er.P.3.
15.00hrs A patrol, strength 1+4, was sent out, tasked to attempt to penetrate into the enemy rear via the Munasuo sector and find out about the location of the enemy tanks and before returning to try to destroy one of them with satchel charges. This recce operation has been agreed with Col.Lt. Pirilä.
16.00hrs Situation report to Er.P.3. Nothing special.
20.00hrs 2 Squads set out led by the Coy CO to repair the eventually destroyed or filled in AT foxholes at the Lähde sector AT area. The Coy CO also informed that he was going to inspect the AT positions of the platoon in the front line while waiting for the return of the patrol that had been sent out at 15.00hrs.

16.00hrs Situation report: 43 a/c in the air, 29.1. at 22.30hrs artillery strike in front of one of the dugouts of the Company, some pairs of skis and 2 rifles broken.
24.00hrs Patrol Jääskeläinen returned, they did not reach their objective due to efficient enemy securing.

Probably the patrol that set out on the 28th.

Enemy offensive launched.

1.2.1940

16.00hrs Situation report to the command post of Er.P3. by phone: Dozens of enemy a/c, both fighters and bombers (mostly 9 bombers covered by 3 fighters) cruising in the visible area, also above the cantonment area. Did not bomb our camp but dropped leaflets. Around 15.00hrs one of the a/c was seen falling down hit by an AA gun. The plane was found some 800m S from our camp, it was totally wrecked, the crew of the plane had been killed most likely. JR8 set a sentry at the wreck.
19.30hrs Report by Res.2nd Lt Pitkänen from the Merkki section on carrying out patrolling on 31.Jan. Appx.23 (not available).

Date 5.2.1940

11.20hrs Er.P.3 CO alerted the Company that was to depart at once for the Summa sector to aid the 1st Coy in AT duty. The CO of the outfit behind the Support line had to be contacted. Present were the II and IV platoons which set out on skis led by the Coy CO for the ordered objective. On their way the Company was three times subjected to shelling, but without suffering losses. The Company was ordered to be in reserve for now behind the Support line. The Coy CO and Platoon leaders contacted the CO of 1./Er.P.3 and carried out terrain reconnoitring. Heavy shelling all the time. The Company was at first situated in the trench of the Support line but was later transferred in dugouts. The Company did not engage.

There had been haevy fighting at Summa for several days now. Platoon Puhtimäki seems to have been giving some respite to the front line men doing sentry duty for them.

Date 6.2.1940

01.15hrs Platoons returned led by the Coy CO. Lorries had been sent to fetch the Coy by the order of the Coy CO.
16.00hrs Situation report to Er.P.3. Platoon Puhtimäki has been in the Lähde sector in the front line in sentry duty from 10.00hrs on 5.2. to 06.00hrs on 6.2.
18.25hrs Battalion order: The Company must be in marching readiness for the Summa sector.
20.55hrs Readiness recalled.

04.30hrs Div order on amending “Kalastus”. 2./Er.P.3 was subordinated to the JR8 CO to relieve men in the firing line. (Appx.27, not available) Coy CO contacted JR8 CO who ordered him to arrive on 8.2. at his command post for detailed instructions, together with the Platoon COs.
16.00hrs Situation report: Some 20 a/c overhead at the cantonment area, shooting as soon as detecing any smallest movement.
