JR 11 on VT-line, Kivennapa region
JR 11 on VT-line, Kivennapa region
Hello everybody!
Now I work on a next part of my new book. Digging in archive materials I met with some unclear war episode which regards to actions of 10./J 11 in its defence battles during 10-15/6/1944.
Soviet 64 Guard.R.D took Linnamäki hill at night 11-12.6.44 and then spread to a front-line from Koivusaari crossing Kivennapa-Ahijarvi road to Kolomäki hill and Ahola. First fights begun on 12.6 and were proceeded to 15.6. Front of 64 Guard.R.D was extended then to Pahajärvi swamp.
Actually I can not understad details of a situation around small swamp island south-east from Ahola and large swamp island around mark 98.0 (east from Ahola). Ahola and a nearest small island was a sector of III/10./J11, but large swamp was diveded between II/10./JR 11 and 9./JR 6. Mark 98.0 then was a middle point.
1. On all finnish war archive schemes a configuration of VT-line is stable there, that means mark 98.00 hill was not occupied by russian troops.
2. Otherwise soviet schemes show that the 98.0 hill was occupied by them.
3. There are descriptions of 3-day battles around some small swamp island with a partisipation of 10.JR 11 and I/JR 200, but mark 98.0 is not mentioned there.
4. There are some small notes in KTR 15 documents wich talk about battles to the west from mark 98.0. It's unclear what do they mean - western part of the large island or "Ahola" island.
May be somebody knows anythig about this history? May be there are any memories of finnish veterans?
I would be thankful for any help.

Here are two more detailed ones I spotted from "Kansa Taisteli" magazine's archives:farmer wrote:May be there are any memories of finnish veterans?
Heikki Suoniemi - Täpärä pelastuminen
Mauri Valkonen - Suurtaistelun alkupäivinä Kivennavan kirkonkylässä 10-12.6.1944

Anybody out there interested in getting a translation ?
Re: JR 11 on VT-line, Kivennapa region
Thank you, Mangrove!
I have already read these two articles. They are interesting, but unfortunately there are no answers to my questions there.

Thank you, Lotvonen, for your proposal!
I appresiate your readyness to help, but this case materials were already translated.
However sometimes I meet with difficulties in translation of some finnish texts so I may need your kind help in a future.

If there were Finnish POW who were captured during the battle and were repatriated after the war, there should also be VALPO interrogation reports that usually contain information about the circumstances they were captured.farmer wrote:They are interesting, but unfortunately there are no answers to my questions there.

Thanks. Interesting thought.... But I can not realize right now where I can find names of finnish POWs (10./JR 11 or I/JR 200 at Kivennapa).
