M1910 Maxim Finnish metal belts

#1

Post by alpinoinMT » 26 Jan 2020, 18:08

To those who know, I am searching to see if the Finnish metal ammunition belts for the Maxim M1910 (Finnish designations M/09 M/21 M/32)
have a starter tab, or are they simply laid into the feed tray, like my beloved US M240B MG or my not-so-beloved US M-60 MG ?
THANKS/KIITOS
if so, any photos or sources/
and anywhere I can find an M/21 or m/32 tripod?
a reporter once asked me, after an awards ceremony
"are purple hearts for soldiers & bronze stars for officers?'

Hi. Finnish 200-round continuous steel belts for 7.62 mm x 54R calibre Maxim machineguns do not have starter tabs. The belt is so rigid on its own that no starter tab is needed.

There are quite a quite deactivated Maxim guns in Finnish market and many collector's have fully functional guns in their collections, but what I have seen M/21 and M/32-33 tripods are very rarely being sold separately. When being sold such items tend to change hands in special auctions and gun shows or sold by one collector to another, since (as far as I know) there is no Finnish gun shop that would specialize to such a small market segment as select-fire/automatic weapons and their accessories.

The largest Finnish annual Finnish gun show is Tamarms, which is in city of Tampere in mid-February - it is 16th of February this year. In addition there are several smaller annual gun shows such as Turku Arms Fair in city of Turku in April and Arma Ulea in city of Oulu in January.

SAHS (Firearms Historical Society of Finland) has some machinegun mounts listed on its next auction (24th of May), but unfortunately no Finnish tripods are included:

...unless you are capable and willing to buy a fully functional Maxim machine gun with it:
