Finnish Army butter dish?

Post by alpinoinMT » 09 Apr 2020 01:46

I often read about Finnish troops being issued daily rations of butter [as well as crisp bread, cheese, tinned food & cigarettes]
Did they have a "butter dish" as the German Army did - I know a lot of German & Finnish equipment was similar. If so, its name?
THANKS/KIITOS

I think Finns had nothing like the German Butterdose, though butter cases could be crafted for home. Butter was issued in small round or cubic "butter buttons" (voinappi). Few photos from SA-kuva.

Soldiers craft butter cases from birch bark (159197).

As per regulations, butter was transported to the front either in large wooden or metal boxes. Based on various reports, individual soldiers used either the mess kit, wooden and birch bark boxes or odd aluminium containers.
