A faint recollection which may be wrong:
Olof Palme served as a volunteer in Finland but that was in 1918 and he was not the former prime minister of Sweden, but a relative of his( the family name might have been different since I think he might have been Olof Palme's maternal uncle).
regards,
Tapani K.

Hi Daniel,
I "discovered" him from a local book "Parolasta Pyhäniemeen" (From Parola to Pyhäniemi) by Ahti Saarinen. There isn´t very much about him, only the following: "Lt Bruno Thellung, pilot at LLv28 (Fighter Squadron 28, equipped with Morane Saulnier MS 406 planes), "worked" as volunteer from 9th Feb-40 to 1st April-40. Landing accident with MS-319 coded plane 25th Feb-40" .
When did Swizerland purchase their MS 406 planes? I just wonder was Lt Thellung familiar with that type before arriving here.
Regards, Juha

I'm not quite sure but I have an idea that Thellung didn't come to Finland because he was already in Finland. IIRC he was a mechanician, but his other talents were noticed soon. He was either a pilot or mechanician of Swissair (or whatever it was back then) located at Helsinki International Airport (Malmi).
There were also Polish pilot(s?) and mechanicians, perhaps I mix these two cases.

I will correct myself after a year and a half: Olof Palme was a paternal uncle of the later Swedish Prime Minister. The elder Olof Palme did volunteer for Finland in 1918 and was killed at Tampere. Here is a Swedish-language link:Tapani K. wrote:A faint recollection which may be wrong:
