Russian Squadron names / Numbers in Winter War

Post by Robert M Hammond » 01 Dec 2021, 07:15

Dear Listers:

Hi! I am attempting to learn what Soviet aircraft were used during the Winter War, especially during February 1940. Is there a list of the Soviet squadrons and the number of planes used?

All the best,
Robert Hammond

Robert,
you will find all information you need in my recent book Red wings in the Winter War, published by MMP Books in 2020.

From the press release of the publisher:

This book describes the operations of the Soviet air force along the Finnish-Soviet front during the Winter War of 1939-1940. The Winter War began with the Soviet invasion of Finland on 30 November 1939, three months after the outbreak of World War II, and ended three and a half months later with the Moscow Peace Treaty on 13 March 1940. The League of Nations deemed the attack illegal and expelled the Soviet Union from the organisation. The book includes over 350 photographs, most of which have never published before, 28 specially commissioned colour profiles and 5 maps. This is a must-have book for any student of Soviet aviation history.

Best regards,
Carl
