Hi guys!.

Here's some pics from my granfather war years. My granpa Vilho Teodor Hujanen seved in 2./JR 30 as light-machine gunner.Pics are rather poor quality and don't show explosing tanks etc.But they are 100% never been seen before. They are from period when JR 30 entered Äänislinna/Petroskoi in 41.

As Hans said Jääkäri is correct. But my granpa was just infantry "grunt/landser".Not an Jääkäri.Yes i have few moore but they are from same destroyed train and from Äänislinna.Much of same vein.

I thought JR is an acronym for jääkäri-rykmentti :)

PS could you share some of your grandfather's war stories if possible? :D

JR is short term from Jalkaväki Rykmentti=Infantry Regiment.

Unfortunally i was quite young when my granpa died.I just remember bits of stories he told.He used to go into smoking room, light an cigarete and i went along and begged for war stories.
I remember vividly one story.Russians were attacking and granpa was firing his light machine gun.Last charging Russians died just 10 meters front of him. After that granpa just smoked his cigarette and remained silent. He didn.t want to talk anymore abouth that. Then i didn't understand that but he must have been remenber the faces of dying Russians again. No wonder that memories were too painfull after even 30 years.

Anyway often my granmother interrupted and sayd "enough with those old war stories".Past is past.I whish i would have got an recorder. Many of war memories have been lost for good.

anttii, yep JR30 had an long war service. It remained in front line practicaly whole war.And in summer 44 when it was making an counterattack in Ihantala it lost over 700 men in one day.If i remenber correctly it lost 10 Company CO of 14 in same day!.Big sacrifice for men of Savo.

Juha,

Quite interesting, I remember my granfather (also deceased since 80's) telling about how they entered the town very soon after it had fallen into Finnish hands.

I try to get more details about his unit. I think he also said he met later-to-be-famous author Väinö Linna during that time (same regiment?).

In my opinion these kind of pictures are the most interesting. Has anyone posted such pictures earlier here and if so where? I got a hold of my grandfathers album a while ago. I try to post some of those pics here in a few weeks when I get acces to a scanner and see how do they look scanned. They are pretty poor quality as well.
