Finnish soldiers captured by Germans?

#1

Post by Christian W. » 30 Aug 2004, 23:40

I have been wondering for a while, did the Germans capture any Finnish soldiers during the Lapland War? And if they did, what was their fate? If they did capture any, they were most likely shipped to Germany and placed in POW camps but im not sure. :?

Any help would be apreaciated.

Yes, naturally Germans took prisoners of war. I don't have any figures with me, though.

They also took civilian hostages at times then threatening to shoot them if any sabotage was done against Germans, a tactic probably familiar to their commander Rendulic who had earlier been dealing with partisans in the Balkans.

According to Jatkosodan Historia 5 and 6 Finnish Army lost during Lapland War 262 MIA.Of those atleast 164 were known to be captured by Germans. Most of them ended in German POW camps in Norway but few were transported to camps in Europe too.

Cheers/Juha
