Re: The official AHF Winter & Continuation War quiz thread
Sorry for the delay, a question is on its way! Travelling for buisness for a couple of more days, but know the answer. Just need to formulate the question.
Re: The official AHF Winter & Continuation War quiz thread
Ok, here we are. Trying a new format, which may be simple or to hard. Here are a couple of numbers associated with a Finnish person involved in at least one of the Winter / Continuation / Lapland Wars:
27
1941
4
17
1978
Who is he?
The numbers are arranged in a chronological order.

Karl Lennart Oesch ?
Only that 4, if it means IV Army Corps.

Re: The official AHF Winter & Continuation War quiz thread
Very well done, kuuskajaskari!
And here I was worrying that it was to hard..
27 = the Prussian 27th Jäger Battalion
1941 & 4 = Commander of the IV corps (using 4 instead of IV to avoid making it instantly google'able)
17 = he was charged with the death of 17 convicts in 1945
1978 = when he died
Over to you!
Lars

You know, it is too easy to search with wikipedia.
27 on these sites means Jäger Battalion 27,
1978 and wiki gives you the list of deaths.
Ok, will continue by the same format.
Who is the soldier behind of this list ?
2.08,35
Karmalampi
72
02.09.45
s/s Dothan Victory
Petersburg

Re: The official AHF Winter & Continuation War quiz thread
Thanks,
I first thought that I could easily crack this case by gooling with the "s/s Dothan Victory" hint.
But in vain.
Seemed that the ship had nothing directly do with the Continuation War...
But that combined to the hint date 02 09. 45 made me wonder if your question had something to do with the people that left Finland after the Continuation War...
But as there were dozens of them, maybe it had something to do with the number 72?
Perhaps Mannerheim Cross number? - and it was.
2.08,35 seems to be connected to his sports career... winning the 4x10 relay World Championship 1939...
Karmalampi--- I don't know.
Something to do with the Col Verner Viikla suicide ?
Regards, Juha

Re: The official AHF Winter & Continuation War quiz thread
Juha,
that Karmalampi was just for thinking.
Col Viikla was 6D comander and Alakulppi was at that time under JR33/6D.
2.9.45 is the day what caused a change in life. Alakulppi was arrested and after some adventures he went with the s/s Dothan Victory with the others, sc. mens of Marttinen finally to US.
That Petersburg, Va is the place of death.
And the rest of the guestion we can clear on the west stand of the soccer stadium near by you.
Lasse Johansson is very famous as an athletic, trainer and most of all style designer.
Long career in the vocational school with many of us.
Fortunately, survived the war-time.
Your question,
I have a tiny feeling, that it is a timer...
