Naturally he was supposed to salute Stalin.

Actually there was (unfortunately) a relatively short time also in Finland not so long time ago, when one was saluting with a hand even without any headgear. I suppose this unnatural practise does not exist any more.

That's exactly the answer I'm looking for. According to Ryhmänjohtaja [Squad Leader] by P.Huhtala (fifth edition, 1940) foreign heads of state were on the list of people and things to salute.

That aberrant abomination apparently was and hopefully remains short-lived. According to http://www.esaimaa.fi/Online/2009/02/12 ... 16616677/4 it was abolished in 2009.

Over to you,
Markus

Re: The March '43 borderline for auxiliary measures to be taken towards Stalin is due to his career development: Before that he was a common crook but in the beginning of March got on the fast track in his military career going straight from average Joe to Marshal, c.f. http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1 ... 551,289972 Of course he had been a major criminal for decades but that hardly constitutes a military rank although according to an old joke in Russia criminals can be easily identified by their uniform.

Maybe this question is not so interesting or perhaps it is too easy...? Better to change it a bit.

Mannerheim had naturally all his uniforms tailor-made and was very particular about his clothes. As a nobleman and a man of the world he made lots of personal alterations to the details of his uniforms to make them better to suit his taste. Hence this tunic in the picture is unique, although based on M36.

What differences can you spot?

No-one...? Well - at least these:

- hidden buttons
- it was longer
- lighter material, same as / close to the one used in Lotta-dresses
- pointed pocket flaps

I´ll pass my turn to next voluntary one...

A prototype that never reached series production.
At it's final version it would also have been equipped with a sail.

Sorry, but no.
It's a normal contact mine (S/43) with a special feature that made it an "assault mine"
At it's final version it would also have been equipped with a sail.
